Already with the summer here we have to put our motorhome in order to take the road and travel to our destination. Therefore, today we will talk to you about different ways to clean your motorhome so that it is spotless. You will not deny us that travelling with a clean vehicle is not better, right?
However, the motorhome has certain particularities that you need to know when you intend to clean it. You must take into account the cleaning of the water tanks, the windows, the living room, the bathroom or even the bedding. Of course, you can’t forget about rubbers and plastics, the dashboard or the air conditioning itself to avoid smells.
How to clean your motorhome from the outside
Unfortunately, the best and most common way to clean a motorhome is to do it by hand but, in addition, we will not be able to do it in the street, but we will have to take it to a washing centre to avoid fines.
On the one hand, the way to proceed is like any other vehicle. We clean the outside of the caravan with soap and water, as well as taking into account the right products to remove insects or dirt if necessary. If you use a brush instead of a sponge, make sure it doesn’t scratch. Once it is all soapy, rinse it and dry it with a cloth.
The wheels and rims are always a difficult point to clean, especially the second ones. For this reason, we recommend soaping and then cleaning with pressure to remove all the black carbon that remains stuck. As for the wheels, we can take advantage of this to remove any leaf or pebble remains if you have them.
As for the roof, since it is almost impossible to find automatic washing centres for motor homes, the best we can do is use a ladder. We will try to cover the air or gas outlets to prevent water from entering and then proceed to clean like the rest of the bodywork.
As for the engine, the best way to do this is with compressed air, but always with care. At this point the objective is none other than to remove dust and any accumulation of sand or dirt that has remained stuck during driving.
It is also important that you check the underbody and take the opportunity to grease the legs and head of the hitch if it has one.
The next point to consider is the glass, including the mirrors. The windows must be cleaned on the outside and also on the inside of the motorhome. To do this, first clean them with soap and water using a soft cloth, and then wipe them with a soft cloth to remove any water residue.
We should know that the windows of motor homes are usually made of methacrylate, so they are more fragile than glass. You should not use window cleaners containing solvents or alcohol.
How to clean the inside of your caravan
The fastest way to clean the motorhome room is with a hoover. You can use a handheld one, but make sure it is powerful enough. With this same hoover you can also clean the awning if you have one or any shelves you have.
After proper dusting, use special products for the materials the interior of the motorhome is made of. For example, if you have wooden shelves, there are numerous sprays on the market that allow you to polish them.
The bathroom is another important part of the vehicle. To clean it you will need some brushes and paper towels to reach the corners of the toilet and other sanitary furniture. It is not far from cleaning any bathroom, but taking into account that the materials are usually plastic and therefore using products for these.
Bedding is also important: sheets, cushions, bedspreads, etc. It is possible to wash them separately in a washing machine or to use the same hoover as before in case they are not used. The first thing to do is the recommended.
Other elements to clean
To prevent odours from the motorhome you will have to try cooking outside or, if you do it inside, ventilate the vehicle by opening all the windows. Also, to avoid them from getting impregnated in the fabrics, use an anti-odour product.
Inside the motorhome there are rubbers and plastics that you should try to maintain as much as possible. A neutral cleaner and a cloth should be enough, although in the case of rubbers it is also interesting to keep them nourished so that they do not dry out due to heat and sun.
The dashboard, as in any vehicle, must also be kept clean and hydrated. There are numerous products for this purpose, which, together with a cloth, will be more than sufficient.
Finally, you can always use the hoover for upholstery too, but then you have to brush and spray it with upholstery products.
Although it can take a lot of work, it is not something we should do every day, but periodically to keep the motorhome in perfect condition. Come on!
Whether it’s clean or something dirty from the road, at Camping Villamar we will be delighted to welcome you.
