1. Before leaving

Before starting your travel in caravan, you must check not only the condition of your caravan or motorhome but also the health of the vehicle you will use to tow it. Why not to do a checklist and review the four wheels and their pressure, the cooling system, brakes and so on. The best thing to do is to check every single detail before setting off.

3. Plan your route

If you design your route in advance, you will know where to stop to get some petrol, where to rest and where to park without problem. To travel in caravan may sound like adventure and improvisation but with a little planning, you’ll avoid a lot of unexpected events.

A good way to organize your caravan trip is to establish the point you try to reach, trace the route and then point out the places where you would like to rest or do some sightseeing.  And don’t forget to also look for gas stations, campsites or other services that might be necessary.

3. Pack your bags!

With the route designed and the activities we would like to do nearly planned, it’s time to pack. When travelling in caravan, think carefully about what you are going to take with you. Don’t overload it. Bedclothes and kitchen utensils, for example, are essential items. The rest will depend on the activities you plan to do.

One tip to balance the weight of our caravan is to get space-saving objects. For example, microfiber towels take up less space than cotton towels. On the other hand, if you plan a stop at a campsite you could use its facilities and do the laundry there. In this way you will definitely reduce your luggage.

4. Time to leave

And the great day has arrived. At last! Going out early in the morning or late in the afternoon might be a good idea. That way, you’ll avoid peak traffic hours. Similarly, if you have the chance, it’s always better to go out on a weekday than on a Friday or a public holiday.

5. Welcome to the campsite!

When getting to the campsite, the first thing to do is to leave our caravan properly parked and go to the reception desk to ask for our caravan plot. Make sure you arrive at the campsite during the day so that you will be able to mount your caravan comfortably and without disturbing your closest neighbours. Once you have parked, it’s time to connect your caravan to the electricity supply and get everything ready for your stay.

We suggest you choose a campsite having sufficient services and facilities in order to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Having toilet cabins, laundries, supermarkets and restaurants nearby is a must. And if you travel in caravan with kids, don’t forget to check what camping activities for children are offered.

6. Your caravan trip is not over yet!

The last day of your mini getaway has arrived but the caravan trip is not over yet. We still have the journey back home during which we will surely begin to prepare the next travel in caravan. Yet, before that step, you should make first some checks. For example, make sure you empty the fridge so that no food expires and everything is correctly disconnected. Otherwise, there is a risk that you caravan won’t be in perfect condition next time you need to use it.
