When you are considering choosing a caravan, you may have many doubts. It is important that you analyse every last detail of the vehicle to avoid making a bad decision, as the investment you will be making will be very important. In addition to knowing what taxes are involved or the type of insurance you have to pay, you should also look at other features that are also interesting. That is why, in the following lines, we want to show you what a 2 areas caravan and a 3 areas caravan consist of.
What are the areas of a caravan?
The areas of a motorhome are the spaces inside it. In other words, its layout. They are the spaces into which it is divided to carry out the tasks of a home, such as eating or sleeping.
If we were talking about a house, we would be referring to the rooms. They usually have two or three rooms, although there are also those with only one.
When choosing the best model, take into account the number of passengers, the type of journeys you make and of course how much you plan to spend.
Before we look at the two- or three-areas caravans, you should know that there is also a model with a single one. In this case, the seats are converted into beds. They do not have a bathroom and have a mini-kitchen that usually opens at the back.
What is a caravan with 2 areas?
The caravans with 2 areas are the ones that you will usually find on the market. They usually have two beds and can accommodate up to 5 people. They can have these designs:
- With two living rooms.
- With two bedrooms.
- With one living room and one bedroom.
The lounge area often has two seats that can be converted into beds or bunk beds. The bedroom area can have a fixed bed or bunk beds.
In all models, this class of caravans includes its own chemical toilet and interior kitchen. They weigh less than 750 kilos. This is one of the biggest advantages of opting for this type of caravan, as you can include it in your vehicle insurance. And you don’t need an extra number plate either.
This is a very comfortable caravan for long distances and is also very economical on the road. It is easy to drive and can be stored in a conventional garage.
What is a 3 areas caravan?
Three-areas caravans have the same options as two-areas caravans, but usually include a fixed dining area. Another possibility is to have two fixed bedrooms and a table with two seats facing each other, which can also be converted into a bed.
In the latter case, you will be gaining space for a larger number of people to stay overnight. Of course, your vehicle will also need to be able to carry up to 7 passengers.
When they have two bedrooms, they most often have one area with bunk beds and another with a fixed bed. The lounge can be located at the front of the caravan, but also in the middle of the two bedrooms.
Naturally, three-room caravans are more spacious in every respect. However, they are also more expensive. In addition, their weight usually exceeds 750 kilos, which makes it compulsory for them to have their own insurance and a registration plate.
In addition, the vehicle must have the necessary power to tow a caravan of this class, at least 140 hp. Not forgetting that the weight of the caravan cannot be more than 70 % of the weight of the car.
If the combined weight of the caravan and the car is more than 3,500 kilos, the driver must have a C licence.
What should you consider when choosing your caravan?
Now that you know what a two- or three-areas caravan has to offer, here are some tips on what to look for when choosing a model:
- The number of people who will spend the night.
- The use you are going to make of it.
- The budget available.
- The layout that most appeals to you.
In the end, of course, a three-areas caravan gives you more space, but it is only an advantage if you really need it. As you have seen, it has a higher price and more demanding requirements in terms of licence type, towing vehicle and insurance.
From Camping Villamar, we recommend that you choose between the 2 areas caravan and the 3 areas caravan, whichever is more comfortable and practical for you and your circumstances. What is clear to us is that you should try it out with us. Will you dare to do so?
